You asked why
I pointed out constellations
like they were my grandchildren,
you, the stranger sitting next to me
at their dance recital.
I filled our silences with their stories.
Distracted you from realizing:
you were the stranger sitting next to me.
It's a new challenge from the folks at yeah write!
Each week we have 42 words to answer a question--in April, my responses will come in poem form.
This week's question: What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
ooh this goes way deep. Very nicely written!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this. So much said in 42 words.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I do best with word limits!
DeleteLove your unique take on the question!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLove this line: "I filled our silences with their stories." Some relationships are like that, huh?
ReplyDeleteYes, unfortunately. But we learn from them, right?
DeleteWonderful! What a fantastic image. I can't even pick out my favorite part - it's just so well done. Thanks for trying out the gargleblaster!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm glad we have it!

DeleteThis is fantastic! Like Christine, I can't choose my favourite line because the whole thing is so good. Great take on the prompt! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThis is so sad, but I've been here in a relationship before (of course it eventually ended, as filled silence can only last so long...)
ReplyDeleteYeah, eventually silences take over...but it's usually for the best.
DeleteI just love this. You packed so much into so few words.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The word limit was a challenge!
DeleteThis may be the best I've read from you!
ReplyDeleteWow, there's some motivation for Poetry Month! Thanks!
DeleteHey, Chicago...I'm not sure what to think. A lot to it, making me think of all kinds of things.
ReplyDeleteGood! Lots of thoughts are what I want.
