The Proposal

Chloe and Franklin drive home from dinner when the subject comes up again.

"I can't believe that guy proposed at a restaurant," Chloe says. "People still do that?"

"Some people really like food? Maybe that's where they met. We don't know." Franklin says from the passenger seat.

"And did you see the ring? A diamond. C'mon dude, it's 2039. Diamonds are so quaint."

"This coming from the girl who still drives a hybrid...besides, he did the whole get down on one knee thing, so why not throw in a diamond?" Franklin shrugs. "Call me old-fashioned, but I thought it was sweet."

Chloe looks over to Franklin, then back at the road. "You are old-fashioned. And don't make fun of my car," she pats the dashboard, "I got a really good deal on this gal."

"Maybe that guy got a good deal on the ring."

"I should hope so. It wasn't even that big."

  1. Haha, I wonder if that kind of proposal will seem old-fashioned? Diamonds becoming quaint wouldn't be a bad thing (but I'm sure some other expensive trinket would take its place!)

    1. So true. The wedding industry has to profit somehow!

  2. Hahaha! Diamonds actually are becoming passe, what with the whole Blood Diamond thing. Quite a few of my friends wouldn't accept diamonds for engagement rings. The hybrid though. . .well, that one's still relatively new and useful to me. :-) I loved the fun in this piece. Thanks for linking up.

    1. I'm sure the hybrid will be around for a while, along with the classic gas guzzlers...but maybe we will have our flying cars in 25 years? This was fun for me to write, thanks for reading!

  3. Today it's flash mob dance number proposals in hardware stores. I wonder how the future will top that?

    1. Haha--it'll be difficult! Maybe the simple proposal will be back in vogue, but probably not (unfortunately). Thanks for reading!
